Winter Hiking!!

We had blue skies and warmer temps. today, so we took full advantage of it. Well, I wouldn't say it was "warm" out, but it was warmer! It was about 45 degrees today.
We all needed to get out of the house and get some fresh mountain air so we went for a little hike off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We wanted to go to a favorite spot of ours, but the parkway was closed going south so we could not access it. It took a little while to find a trail that was not very busy and that looked like it actually went somewhere, and not into someone's back yard. The trail we took was not the best, but it did the trick, and we all had a good time!
The calm before the storm. This is Harley posing for Tom. Harley quickly breaks out of his pose and starts digging in the leaves and dirt and breaking sticks. He does this frequently, especially after you comment on how good he is. (ask Amy and Seth!)
Tom always has to climb a tree when we are out and about.
Guess what. More dogs and tree pictures! Tom tried to get Maggie to climb the tree with him. She loves to walk on/up/down trees. Today is also Maggie's 3rd Birthday!!
Quite flattering of both of us huh? Look at Maggie's eyes! She is such a watch dog.

This is our neighbor cow. I call her Bessie, or Bessie Boo. I am hoping that the neighbors just have her as a pet, and not for any other reasons. She is the cutest cow ever!

KELLER!!!!!!!!

Finally we do something that doesn't involve wood or dogs!!!! We had a bit of a snow storm and freezing rain and thought the show might end up being cancelled, but we were very lucky. What a late Thursday night, the show didn't end till 12:45 which puts us home around 1:20 this morning and we both had to work today. I"m sure that this will be an early Friday night for us.
Keller Williams is usually a one man band, but he teamed up with some other folks for this tour. Keith Moseley on bass (The String Cheese Incident), Gibb Droll on guitar (Marc Broussard), and Jeff Sipe on drums (Aquarium Rescue Unit, Trey Anastasio, Susan Tedeschi, Phil Lesh).

What a great time!!!!!!!!
I figure this portion of the blog wouldn't be complete without a wood update. Our ad in the IWANNA(local trader paper) came out today, I received 5 phone calls, one guy came today to buy a load and another is coming in the morning. And the dogs are just fine.

Another Monday Evening

As Tom and I were throwing wood from one pile to another last night after work, I noticed that the sky was a beautiful dark pink color and I figured it would be a beautiful sunset. Turns out it was not as vibrant as it appeared from behind a giant pile of wood, but here is the best picture of it. Sorry there are no pictures of wood today. Tom and Nate (and Seth) ran a log splitter ALL day Sunday. I was supposed to go out and take pictures...... but I forgot. oooppps. I could go on and on about this ALL day log splitting, but I won't. Well, OK, I'll just say that once Tom starts something he really has to finish it. The poor guy made the neighbors turn on their porch lights so he could finish splitting all the wood!! When I say all the wood, that just means all the wood that has been cut so far. We still have a good 60-70 feet of tree on the ground! So, if anyone is planning to come visit this spring, or even this fall, we could make a day out of cuttin' on the tree...whatda ya think?

I got Doggie sleeping bags for Christmas, so last night we decided to get them out and see how the dogs liked them. Harley was not feeling well (stil isn't ) so he wasn't too interested in his sleeping bag. Well, besides not feeling well, everytime he would try to lay down, big sister here would sit on his blankie and make him mad. So here is Magpie in her new bag! Obviously she hated it! She is so spoiled!

I put my feet in the bag with Maggie and it is very warm! We are all ready for camping season!

Dogs on a Log

I know, I know. Our blog is nothing but wood and dogs so far! But you are still looking at it huh? :)
Well the weather has gotten a little warmer so we were all outside working on the tree yesterday and Tom and a friend are going to split some of the wood today. Harley was feeling extra photogenic today, so here he is posing for Tom!

Mountain dogs!

There is a small tree under this brush pile and this pile is taller than I am. It looks small in this picture.

Please take note of Tom's pink axe leaning on the stump!

We actually sold a truck load of the already split wood Saturday morning. The man that bought it said he would be back in a week or so to get more. Thank goodness!

SNOW!!!!!

Finally we have been blessed with the great white flakes that fall from the sky!! It's only an inch or two, but we are still under a winter storm warning until this afternoon so hopefully there's more on it's way. Our driveway is very steep, so needless to say we are home for the day!! (My jeep would make it down, but who wants to go out in this?!?)

Harley and Maggie absolutely love the snow. I let them out this morning and they took off running, playing, chasing each other and then started eating as much of it as possible. Snow is a pretty rare occurrence around here, so they have to get their fill before it all melts in a day or two.
