Oh, the tree.

Unfortunately we had to take down a tree that was nearly 125 years old. This tree was absolutely huge! It is a white oak and it was struck by lightning earlier this year. The lighning killed half of the tree instantly. We live on top of a hill, and this tree was down near our neighbor's house and it actually hung over their fence, shed, and back corner of their house. Luckliy Tom knows people, so we had an awesome crew of "tree guys" take care of this for us. Now the hard work begins.......they just dropped the tree, we have to cut it up, split it, and get it off of this hill! Anyone feel like lending a hand? :)

Just to give you an idea of how big this thing is!
A Monster of a tree!

Oh, what a mess!!! I see some sore muscles in our furture.

To make room for the big tree, the tree guys had to cut a small pine tree down. Harley promptly found this and turned it into a nice little fort/ball hiding spot.

Maggie and Harley are mountain dogs for sure! Another view of the mountains way off in the distance has really opened up now. Unfortunately so has the view of the neighbor's house.

Maggie loved running up and down the tree. (Tom takes great pictures too, doesn't he?!!)

Our tree guy showed us this crack in the tree. He said that it was a good thing we took the tree down now because this crack runs all the way through the tree. FYI- the stump is about 4 feet wide! You should have heard and felt the earth shake when this monster fell! WOW! The "tree guy" also told us that lightning usually does not do this much damage. We have another tree in our yard that has been struck by lighning twice. Once since we have lived here, and then this tree. I guess we are on top of the hill...but that is still scary!

I love the view from our deck, especially when the clouds have settled in the mountains like this. Aaaahhhh, another day in the mountains.

The neighbor horses. We really LOVE this new camera! (the horse that bit me is not pictured!)

Do you know anyone who needs firewood? We have some to spare.

New Blogger

We just love reading everyone's blogs, so we decided to creat our own. We like to keep everyone updated on our life here in good ol' Leicester We also got a new camera, so there will be lots of pictures to come. Here is one of the first pictures taken with the new camera. Maggie and I were not quite ready!

Maggie is ready for her picture now. She usually looks like a crazy dog in her pictures, but this is actually a really good picture! Look how thick her neck is. She is a whopping 82 pounds!!
